Styling – Inspiration – Art

Bestival

Welcome to MakeUBelieve! This blog has been in the pipeline for far too long but finally we’re up and running. Let’s start it all off with one of our summer antics, a visit to the Isle of Wight for the annual mayhem it hosts, also known as Bestival!

Bestival boasts an impressive gathering of 55,000 people, all coming together to enjoy the festivals music, art and entertainment, this year with its giant disco ball bouncing light across the massive 88 acre site.
Our favourite crowd costume this year was the funky tiki men running around in their huge masks and disco ball accessories (seen top left), fantastic!

Our attendance at Bestival was work-related with us painting the wonderful performers from Area 51 (as seen above, taken by Ambient Vista and Boon Images), if you haven’t already had the pleasure, do have a look at the costumes and creative team who entertain globally as www.area51.co; stilt-walkers, fire-breathers, hula-hoop dancers, poi performers all entertaining the crowd aboard the massive ship that was the Port Stage. All captured beautifully on film by the brilliant Ambient Vista… Area 51 at Bestival

When able to sneak off to enjoy the music, we felt this years highlight was definitely Basement Jaxx’s vision and excellent styling with an amazing carnival energy that had us all going wild. phpThumb_generated_thumbnailjpg

We also had the pleasure of meeting Otter Produces , a trippy memory game experience with some incredible styling; the otter came about when Pete (the producer) was very young, on the back of his first sketchbook he created this character that he loved. Essentially it is an ideal, a level of perfection Pete is striving towards constantly and as he finds a new way of achieving that, otter evolves and changes and forms a narrative to reflect that.

The food was also a highlight with daily falafel and hummus from the Vegan good food van and lovely lentil and spinach curry from Pleasant Peacock, all served from a delightfully decorated cart.

We loved the Desert island Disco theme this year and have been inspired by the neon lanyards so much that we had a little further play with the designs while visiting the Eden Project, home to its own eco-system and bi-annual body art event Body Factory, creating a tribal look in the sweltering rainforest biome.

We wish we could have made it to the body factory in October but are looking forward to filming fun that lies ahead for the make-u-believe team and shall keep a keen look out for the factories turn out of inspirational images!
